Artist statement
The mountains and remote areas of Scotland provide the inspiration for my work. I paint on location where I can, gathering ideas through sketches and mixed media studies which I use to create my larger oil paintings. Come along to my studio to see my newest paintings, sketchbooks, works in progress and to chat about all things art and painting.
Extended Bio
Shona Cammack is a landscape painter who is drawn to wild places and remote landscapes. A deep connection to the Scottish landscape, and a love of outdoor adventure in the mountains and remote areas, provide the inspiration for her paintings. She is inspired by the ancient pine forests, lochs and high mountains of her local Cairngorms as well as the more rugged landscapes of the west coast. Shona works outdoors on location where possible, gathering inspiration through small mixed media studies on paper. Some of these will become final paintings and others are used as inspiration for her larger oil paintings in the studio. Shona aims to translate her love of adventure and connection to the Scottish landscape by creating vibrant and harmonious paintings which capture the beauty of our wild places. Her oil paintings are deeply layered and intuitive works, full of expressive marks and varied textures.
Shona's studio is located in the Aboyne Castle Business Centre. She will be working on new paintings throughout the week and will be delighted to welcome anyone who would like to visit and browse sketchbooks, see her works in progress, new paintings and to chat about the painting process.
Please note - access to the studio is via a flight of stairs.
