Artist statement
Our Creative Cromar artists will exhibit this year, an enticing variety of painting styles & media, sculpture, stained glass and ceramics, often inspired by our local area and it's diverse colours, patterns, fauna and flora. We are once again sponsoring a youth artist who specialises in still life. Feast your senses indoors and out, and enjoy a cuppa too.
Extended Bio
Jane Smith (bronze sculpture) is inspired this year by Emily Dickenson's poem 'Hope is the thing with feathers....' and the birds in her garden. Charlotte Ross loves to paint big skies and sultry scenes using oil, acrylic or pastels. Jan Healey sees patterns and shapes in the natural world e.g. lichen and wood, and emulates them in watercolour and ink. Fiona Brown creates beautiful local scenes in stained glass, and is now branching out into watercolour and ink with what she sees in the Howe of Cromar. Willow Thomson paints beautiful watercolour depictions of birds and animals in her surrounds. Jan Williams is also inspired by the countryside and wildlife using acrylics, pastels and watercolour. Nigel Healey just loves to play with clay and build pots by hand and experiment with different glazes and oxides and firing techniques. Sue Wilson loves the abstract nature of flowing acrylics or acrylic inks when creating her artwork. Mary Welfare paints mostly in acrylic and gets ideas from the shapes and textures of the landscape. She also makes papier mache fish and other beings. Codi Smith was chosen by two of our artists who went to the Higher Art show at Aboyne Academy and loved her still life artwork.
