Excited to launch my new studio at NEOS 2025! Using textile and stitching techniques I am developing an eclectic range of pieces from lampshades to trophy mounts that are inspired by the challenges faced in conservation. Previously operating as Studio Gnu which has been exhibited at the V&A London, Anthropologie and Collect at the Saatchi Gallery.
Extended Bio
After studying Furniture Construction and design, working at Timorous Beasties print studio and peeking at interior design with Graven Images I wondered whether I also had time to go study Zoology .. I didnt . But I launched Studio Gnu in 2009 instead which was my reaction to trophy mounts - believing that no animal should be harmed in the decoration of interiors. Each piece was handmade and produced with naturally shed/ found antlers or horns and given their own Harris Tweed coats. This was very successful and pieces can still be seen in Harris Tweed Authority's boardroom , permanent display at Drinishader on Harris for their celebratory exhibition of Harris Tweed, was exhbibited as part of V&A British Innovation and Design , Collect at Sattchi Gallery, Single artist show at Anthropoligie's Gallery London and various interesting commercial and private clients. As successful as this was I still wanted to develop my creative practice and expand my knowledge in the challenges faced in conservation of these fine animals. I started an Open University degree in Environmental Science and have been exploring various crafting and textile techniques to launch a new body of work. Studio Gnu has evolved to Harrison Makes which aims to celebrate the beauty of the natural world whilst highlighting some of the challenges we face to preserve it. Come visit my new explorations
