Artist statement
My paintings have been described as 'joyous bursts' of colour depicting the Scottish landscape. I paint in both acrylic and oil, and am greatly inspired by my surroundings here in Cairngorms National Park. I love the ever changing nature and play of light on the landscape and paint with a heightened sense of colour in a stylised manner.
Extended Bio
Rona Kant
Rona developed her passion for painting when she moved from Glasgow, to the Highlands of Scotland in 2000. Inspired by the majestic surroundings of the Cairngorms National Park where she lives, she started to paint in acrylics to capture the light and convey the intense colours which are evident in her work today.
Continual creative development is an important element to Rona’s work. She is always learning and researching new processes and skills, which has led to her expanding her repertoire to include oil painting.
Prior to her move to the Highlands Rona worked as an interior designer, having graduated from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art with a First Class Honours Degree in Interior Design, and then gaining a Master of Arts Degree in Furniture Design and Technology from Brunel University. It is this background in design which has helped Rona to achieve her distinctive style that she is known for today.
Rona took up painting as a part time career at the start of 2016 and has spent much of her time since, working on the many commissions she receives and preparing for exhibitions. She has exhibited in various galleries and exhibitions throughout Scotland.
Rona’s work is held in private collections throughout the UK, Europe, USA, Australia, South Africa and Canada.
