Artist statement
My main focus is creating practical, tactile, hand-thrown stoneware pottery for everyday use. I use a limited palette of glazes and a variety of clays to develop a range of colour effects. I also enjoy creating glazed and barrel fired decorative pieces. I share my workspace with Kenyon-Roberts Upholstery and will be joined by Whinnyfold Knitwear for NEOS.
Extended Bio
I've been potting for 12 years, initially attending classes at Grays School of Art where throwing on the wheel became my primary focus. In the last few years my main focus has been creating practical, hand-thrown stoneware pottery for everyday use. I strive to make tactile pieces where the making process can be seen and felt. I use a limited palette of glazes and different types of clay to develop a range of colour effects whilst maintaining a coherent feel to the pieces. I also enjoy creating glazed decorative pieces and experimenting with barrel firing. I work in a space at Easter Davoch a couple miles north of Tarland that I share with my wife Michelle who runs a traditional upholstery business and makes hand-sewn lampshades.
