Artist statement
My practice explores textile and mixed-media art. Inspired by the shifting landscapes of the NE coastline, my 2D & 3D work blends traditional techniques with contemporary forms. Also collaborating on Thread & Woodgrain, with my brother in law Barry Hauxwell, creating wooden pieces, combining the tactile warmth of textiles with the organic qualities of wood.
Extended Bio
For over 40 years, I have explored the rich possibilities of textile and mixed-media art, with a primary focus on embroidery and weaving. My practice spans both 2D and 3D works, creating intricate wall art and sculptural pieces that capture texture, movement, and depth.
Inspired by the ever-changing landscapes of the North East coastline, my work reflects the rhythms of nature—its shifting light, tidal patterns, and rugged beauty. My pieces often evoke a sense of place, blending traditional textile techniques with contemporary interpretations of the environment around me.
Alongside my personal practice, I've spent many years encouraging emerging artists as an art lecturer at Moray School of Art, where I shared my passion for creative exploration.
In addition to my textile work, I've collaborated with my brother-in-law, Barry Hauxwell under the name Thread and Woodgrain. Together, we are exhibiting a unique collection of handcrafted wooden pieces that combined the tactile warmth of textiles with the organic qualities of wood.
Now focusing fully on my own artistic journey, I continue to develop new work, embracing the freedom to experiment and evolve my creative vision.
I look forward to welcoming you into my cosy, little home in Lintmill.
