Extended Bio
Juliet Macleod makes wheelthrown porcelain that imparts an evocative exploration of the Scottish coast. Using a distillation of drawings and photographs made over many years, she creates contemplative pieces which hope to engage the viewer and spark their own memories.
Climate change, coastal erosion and marine litter influence Juliet's work. She repurposes shoreline waste such as metal, plastic and rope into handmade tools for abstract mark-making. These tools are used to generate painterly, unique marks and repeating abstract patterns that reference specific coastal landscapes and the effects of changing weather and light.
A graduate of Central Saint Martins, Juliet worked as a graphic designer for more than twenty years. This generated a fascination for mark making and an extensive understanding of design, form and composition. She works from her studio based in the Aberdeen countryside. The local coastline and regular trips to the Outer Hebrides inform her practice.
