Artist statement

You are warmly invited to join me during NEOS to find out why I am 'Looking Closer' and 'Thinking Deeper' about my relationship with the natural world. I will be actively making and I will have guides available so that you can also be creative. Come and talk to me, perhaps join in and bring new ideas to this important ongoing conversation.

Extended Bio

Jane is a Postgraduate Student with The University of Highlands and Islands Shetland College studying an MA Art and Social Practice. She has worked as an Arts Tutor in the community and has an academic background in philosophy. Her research focus is about Time and Connection, using creative engagement to ‘look closer and think deeper’ with a respect for difference and an openness to critical and collaborative thinking. Jane has applied this research to her own relationship with the environment and non-human others. Her Social Practice Project which is the final submission in this MA is both an invitation and a guide to others to undertake this type of personal inquiry. She is testing a methodology of gathering information in nature and responding through making. She is interested to see if this will foster greater connection, awareness, care and respect for the environment and perhaps ease the difficulties that exist in finding paths to dialogue and action.
