Artist statement

I am a self taught Needle felter and I create animal sculptures and art from sheep wool. I am inspired by the form and movement of animals and the beautiful Scottish landscape. This year I will, once again, be sharing a studio with the very talented landscape artist, Amy Holden of Adventures with Landscapes and also the wonderful Gail Ruck of Croft Leather.

Extended Bio

I started needle felting over 10 years ago by accident ! I kept absentmindedly picking wool off the stock fencing whilst out walking my dog and found I had filled my pockets, then wondering what I could with it all I stumbled across needle felting! After years of practise and experimenting I now design and create a unique range of animal sculptures and artwork. I am trying to capture the wonder and beauty of the movement and form of the wildlife around me. Hares are a particular passion of mine, but all fauna and flora provide inspiration. I try to be sustainable and I only use British wools in my creations, mainly Jacobs and Shetland. This is my small way of support the British sheep farmers and promote the fabulous properties of wool and its uses. Once again this year I am sharing the beautiful space at Inveraven church with Amy -Adventures with Landscape. We both love the calm atmosphere and really feel connected to nature there. Its our point in the year where we both recharge!! We also have a good friend Gail joining us from Croft Leather. We all will be re-locating our studios/workshops to the church for NEOS so you will see "behind the scenes" as we work, see the processes and ask questions! That's the bit we love!!
