Artist statement
My venue lies in the beautiful Cabrach area, surrounded by stunning landscapes. My personal inspiration, comes from the shapes, pattern, colour & texture found in such environments. Working on a range of surfaces and using collage, print, fine-art and textile techniques I build layers, to convey imagery, composition and atmosphere of the natural landscape.
Extended Bio
I was trained in screen-printed textiles at Glasgow School of Art and since then I have worked as a lecturer, self employed artist, workshop tutor, designer and maker in a range of surface textile and mixed-media disciplines. I exhibit regularly, both solo and group exhibitions and have, previously, taken part in NEOS.
Once again the venue for my work is the Acorn Centre in the Cabrach, an place of varied and stunning landscapes with an incredibly rich social history. This area and the whole of Moray has inspired my recent work although my focus has remained constant throughout the years. I’ve always been fascinated by the ever changing shapes, patterns, colours, textures, light and shade to be found in our natural environment.
Working with paper and fabric and using a range of fine art and textile discliplines, I build imagery in layers to convey my personal view of a place. Artwork is ofter recognisably figurative but then it may move into a more abstract form. However it is always based on keen observation and a desire to convey imagery, composition and the atmosphere of the land, sea and shore.
For NEOS I will be showing a range of framed artwork, textiles and cards, and there will be an exhibition of work from place based projects undertaken with The Cabrach Trust over the last couple of years.
The Acorn Centre will be hosting one other artist located to the area, Sheila Wiseman Fairy Sculpture. We are so very grateful for the continued support of the Cabrach Trust, not just for us but for all artists working in the Cabrach area.
