Artist statement

My work explores life on the edge, that space between land and sea, the fragility, how human interaction leaves ripples among place time and wildlife. I also look now from the perspective of grief, reflecting, remembering, celebrating all that my husband cherished about his Crovie homeland.

Extended Bio

A late returner to art I picked up on study again after our youngest child fledged the nest and studied art and design to HNC at North East Scotland College in Fraserburgh, I had intended to progress onto HND however the passing of my husband meant I could no longer access college and forced me to rethink everything about life as I knew it. Thus began the creation in Ernest of my own creative practice. I have always been drawn to that space where land meets sea or sea meets land and the stories it tells, the wildlife it supports and tales it tells of how human interaction has a profound effect on its ecosystem. My life in Crovie is spent with countless hours watching the wildlife, everything from barn owls to otters, I get lost In those dazzling moments of sunset reflected throughout the network of tidal pools, and I also reflect on the deep deep love and concern my husband, as a crovie lad, had for the area.
